Day 4
My first day of orientation was this morning. They instructed us to make sure that our (I don’t even know what they called it) knew that we had arrived safely. I am not sure that you two even fit that description, but thought I would drop you an email in case. Up until today my image of Slovenia has been rain and fog. Today is the first day that I have gotten to see the sun! It makes it so much nicerJ I am in the dorms that are right across the street from FELU. I have been told numerous times that not only was I lucky to get into the dorms, but extremely lucky to get into ones that are even remotely close to the campus. The faculty is nice. There was some confusion this morning as the ERAMUS students were all taken care of, but the students with bi-lateral agreements had to make more arrangements and were not told what they needed to bring. By tomorrow hopefully I will have everything I need here, but am somewhat doubting it due to the lack of organization. I am the only student from the US here, but have met other non-EU students from Canada and Russia.
Day 5
We had orientation again this morning and probably a quarter of the people didn’t show up at all. Some of the group that I was in went to the pub until it closed at 3:30 or something like that, then decided that they weren’t done for the night, so went to a club that was open even later. Its ridiculous. I am hoping that that’s not all everyone does. I am still trying to find a group to hang out with, but the one I was with today was ton’s of fun. We went to a Mexican restaurant…it was soooo incredibly different than ours in the US. We had courses with the meal. As a student we can buy coupons that get us the meal for cheaper than it would normally cost. All we do is go to the student offices that are in the city center and buy a coupon for a particular restaurant that participates in this program. The coupon for example that we bought for the Mexican restaurant was 4 Euros. When we get there we tell them that we want the student menu. At the end all we have to do is pay for our drink. Its kinda nice…this afternoon was the first time that I had used it and I used it again tonight to buy a pizza from the pizzeria that my suitemate showed me where it was and there I bought a small pizza with it and I know that that coupon was even cheaper! There all I had to do was pay for the box that they put it in since I got it to go. There is so much stuff that is incredibly different. The Lithuanians and Turkan and Poland that I was with today laughed at some of my American ways and me butchering the pronunciation of my current address. There will be more to come…eventually. The weather has been fairly gross here the past few days. Yesterday was the first and only time I have seen the sun since being here. I have a few pictures posted here with sunlight from yesterday. I also have a picture of the pizza. It was amazing. It had Italian ham (I would type the name of it, but don't want to completely butcher it), sausage bits, some sort of salami, along with fresh mushrooms and amazing cheese!
