Germany Airport

I believe that this was actually the only flight where I actually was able to get off of the plane in a normal manner. Every other flight, we walked down the steps to the runway where a trolley or bus was waiting to take us to the terminals.
This is the first time that I have been out of the country. It was pretty much dark when we arrived, so I didn't get to see anything of the countryside but city lights. However, the airport proved to be an experience of its own.
Although only around 7 hours long the flight seemed to take forever. We left at approximately 4pm from Chicago and landed at 7am in Germany. The crazy part of this was that my around my midnight bedtime at home, the sun was just starting to come up in Germany.
I was instructed to call (actually text Doug) to let everyone know that I was ok. This proved to be more difficult than it initially seemed. I started by turning on my phone to find that I was not roaming in Germany, I didn't have service at all! I then decided that emailing or messenging him online would be the perfect solution. No big deal, but I couldn't even access the internet in the airport. So I went to get Euro's so I could use a payphone, the guy who was helping me told me that they would do me no good. He instructed me to go back through the airport to one of the newspaper stands. Here he said that I could buy a calling card. I did exactly so, returned to the payphone to find that the instructions were in German. I tried and tried to get the card to work, after numerous unsuccessful attempts I quit wasting my time by simply getting an operator and charging my debit card for the call.
After a short hour and twenty minutes, I finally had someone I knew on the phone, and he was even speaking English. It was amazing!

My next flight was to Ljubljana, they walked us again out to a bus that took us to our little bitty plane. I walked on as the stewardess' greeted us in Slovene. By the time I finally got settled on the plane, I was starting to fade fast. I watched as we left Germany, once above the clouds was nap time. This was shortlived as I awoke to the stewardess' distributing sandwiches. My first taste of Slovenia. The ham was unique along with both the cheese and cheese spread that also filled the somewhat sweet bread. Our little treat after the sandwiches was a chocolate filled with jelly. The lady sitting next to me explained that it was a Slovenian specialty and that she had never seen these chocolates in any other place than Slovenia.

We started to lower to get ready for landing when I looked out the window to see the Austrian Alps beneath us. As we began to approach Ljubljana the fog completely filled most of the valleys beneath the mountains. Slovenia was white white with snow. We again were bussed to the terminal where I proceeded to find that all my luggage was present. Off to the city I went.

  2. The look so rugged! The plane began to decend about the time that we were going over them! It was absolutely amazing...then as we neared Slovenia the clouds started filling the valleys and covering all but the peaks of the mountainous country. It was gorgeous!!!
